Residential Iron Work

You don’t always need a general contractor to improve your property. Cut out the middle man and work right with the shop. This saves money and has better communications.

We will help advise you on how to navigate your town halls and the building permit process. We have already done work in most of the townships in Nassau and Suffolk County New York (NY).

Solo Iron works is very creative with our designs. If you can imagine it we can bmake it.

We are careful about not leaving a mess. We put blankets down when needed and clean up after ourselves. We will remove any old railings, carry away and recycle the scrap metal.

Non-Legal (generalized) version of the building codes:

It is important to note if this is the only way to get up to the area is with a spiral staircase the codes are more stringent as to minimum step size and other issues. If there is an alternate way to get up to the area the building codes are more relaxed.

Building codes will vary from town to town. Solo Iron works will help you navigate the approval process with your town hall by sharing our vast experiences with building spiral stairs or circular stairs in your town. We will also let you or your General Contractor what questions to ask. Regardless of the challenges we can build any spiral staircase or circular staircase completely custom to fit the space and the rules.

Spacing:

Certain towns have certain requirements regarding the spaces between rails and vertical elements. It often depends on if it is around a pool, or a deck. The reason is to prevent children from getting into something or getting hurt. Children have managed to get their heads caught between rails in a small opening. Minimums help prevent this from happening. We will help you communicate with your local town to make sure your project complies with safety and building codes. Extra cautious people may choose to make certain areas safer then recommended if you have children or small animals.

Codes constantly change so do not rely on information that you find on the internet unless it is directly from the source and up-to-date.

Wheelchair ramps.

Wheelchair ramps should not be any steeper then 6 degrees. For every foot it goes across it can only go up one inch. Some towns require a toe rail on the bottom.

Window Guards:

Each room must have at least one window that opens. We can install emergency release locks to allow for an escape.
